WAGES DISPUTE
NEWCASTLE WORKERS STRIKE NOTICE INTENDED (Received January 10, 7.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 10 A wages dispute has arisen at Lysaght's large galvanised iron works, Newcastle. As a result the Ironworkers' Federation is serving two weeks' notice of intention to strike by the whole of the employees. The trouble originated in a new award prepared by Mr. Justice Cantor, of the Industrial Commission, prior to Christmas. The men say that in many instances they are much worse off now as they are losing from 30s to 40s per pav largely owing to the method of calculating piecework rates.
