EPSOM TRAINING

DIET TBACK TRIALS KAITAWA AT TWO MILES KEWPIE'S QUEEN IMPRESSES BY ABAYDOSHorses -with -engagements at the Cambridge Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday were given useful work the reverse way at Epsom yesterday, when tho dirt track was in jjood order. Kaitawa, Kewpie's Queen, Lucky Love, Handicapper, Juju McElwyn, Sunny Parrish and Gold Kin gave sound displays. Assisted by Kewpie's Queen (W. K. Geo) and Juju McElwyn (A. Bryce) over the last nine and a-half furlongs, Kaitawa (J. Gco) ran two miles in 4.40. He ran the first half in 1.13, and, joined by the other two, reached the mile in 2.21. Kaitawa gave a sound and even display to run the lasb half in 1.9 4-5.

Kewpie's Queen paced smoothly and was impressive in showing 2.19 for the last mile, the half taking 1.9 2-5. She finished full of running and has taken no harm from her racing. Juju McElwyn ran the mile in 2.20. She did not go as accurately as did Kewpie's Queen when the speed was on. Sunny Parrish Improves

Sunny Parrish (T. Carlyon), after working seven furlongs at a 2.30 rate, ran a mile and a-quarter in 2.57. He took 1.15 for the first half, but did particularly well in covering the next six furlongs at a 2.16 mile rate. Agnes Bingen (D. O. Jones) was not asked for speed while going 3.7 for a mile and a-quarter. She pleased in a short sprint along the back and is in good racing condition. Handicapper (J. Peters), unhoppled, worked two miles in 5.5. but could 'have done much better than 1.13 for the final half-mile. He has lightened a little, but will start at Cambridge in the sprint. Lucky Love (D. Cook), assisted in the early stages by Leeleeta (C. G. Lee), worked two miles at a 2.30 rate. Lucky Love pulled hard for the first mile. Leeleeta, a shapely young trotter by Peter Bingen—Reta Huon, raced unsuccessfully dt Hamilton for M. Stewart and has been placd in the care of Lee, who educated her as Sa two-year-old, when ehe showed much promise. Gold Kip's Two Miles Gold Kip (W. Willetts) worked a mile listlessly in 2.40, but showed improvement later in trotting two miles in 4.58. He went steadily to the mile in 2.32, to run the next two halves in 1.13. Gold Kip is improving in solidness and stamina.

Aerial Bell (C. G. Leo) sprinted the last three of 10 furlongs in 535. She looks none the worse for her racing last week, when she finished second to Fremont.

Worthy Quest (G. H. Stubbs), after going to the mile in" 2.30, completed a mile and a-quarter in 3.fi. Viiiminate (A. Brown) went free-legged for two miles on the sand. Braemar (A-. Bryce) and Marcus (D. Gillard) worked two rounds usefully. The latter is being tried at the trotting gait.

Lawn Derby (A. Brown) had an easy task. He should strip well for his match race at Cambridge.G. Cole gave Charteris Boy and Gipsy Light strong work. The latter has made noticeable advancement. Charteris Bay improved with racing and should soon do better. Wah has joined S. M. • August's stable. Parrish Belle is having a short respite. She will appear at the matinee meeting on January 22 in a mile exhibition trot.

DERBY WIN ON HUMORIST Opinions naturally differ as to the race in which Steve Doiioghue was seen to greatest advantage during his long career, 'but a writer in the London Observer, says:— "I have seen Donoghue win nearly all his chief races. If I wore asked to name the most brilliant he has ever ridden I would. select his effort oil Humorist in the Derby. I question whether any other jockey ... riding at that time would have won on Mr. J. B. Joel's colt.
