FI£ST APPEARANCE GAMES ON AUCKLAND GREEN CENTRE TEAMS OPPOSED - LOCAL PLAYERS SUCCESSFUL The British bowling party, which, arrived in Auckland from llotorua on Saturday, had its first experience on local greens yesterday, when a fourrink \contest was played against an Auckland Centre team on the Auckland Club's green. Victory went to the locul players, who held an 11-point advantage in the aggregate scores. The visitors won one game. ' In comparison with the 1025 party. In tho charge of Mr. G. Wright, the present team, representing English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh clubs, and travelling under the auspices of the Empire Sports Travel Club, is more intent on gaining full enjoyment from the trip than taking % the playing side too seriously. The tourists are keen enough, however, when they arc actually playing, and there was much jubilation when the manager of the party, Mr. Stewart Brown, secured the only win at the expense of the president of tho Auckland Bowling Centre, Mr. W. J. Tru.scott. On arrival at the Auckland green the party wtra met by Mr. H. Luke, president of the Auckland Bowling Club, who extended a cordial welcome. Mr. W. J. Truscott also extended tho good wishes of the centre and expressed the hope that the visitors would experience a very enjoyahle trip. The captain of the British team, Mr. p. Gardiner, replied. He presented Mr Luke wilii an enlarged replica of the touring team's badprc, which is to be placed in the club's pavilion. Mr. Brown presented Mr. Truscott with one of the smaller badges. Regarding the standard of play revealed bv the members of this party, • beyond the efforts of two or three players, it fell far short of that shown by the 1P25 team. However, the players are not used to sucn keen and slippery surfaces as the Dominion greens present at the moment. Ihey showed fair drawing ability. , One member of the party, . Mr. S. Jones, has tho distinction of having been ruji-ner-up in an international singles contest in which 1700 competitors took P»rt. He skipped a rink-yesterday against the i*ukckohe champion, Mr. W. J. Two members of the team, Messrs. W. Clarke"' and Baines. were in New Zealand with the 1925 party, and yesterday renewed many friendships. VISIT TO AUSTRALIA DOMINION REPRESENTATIVES ENTERTAINMENT AT CARLTON j The local members of tho New Zealand team, which will visit Australia to take part in the sesqui-centenary bowling carnival and also the bowling section of the British Empire Games, will be entertained by the Auckland Centre at the Carlton green on Monday at 2 o'clock. Several members of the team from other centres will be present, while the Canadian team, which will arrive in Auckland on Sunday by the Aorangi, will probably attend the function. , .. . The New Zealand and Canadian teams will leave for Australia by the Aorangi on Monday evening. TOURNEY AT HAMILTON FINAL RESULTS IN DRAW [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday The post-section play and final stages of tho South Auckland Bowling Centre's New Year tournament were reached to-day. The play took placo on the Hamilton Club's green in fine weather, and was watched by a large gallery. The bowling was of a high standard, and there were some close finishes. In the post-section play, P. Stewart (Matamata) beat Bv .Evans (Hamilton), 10 —15; It. N. Pilkington (Hamilton) beat P. H. Rowc (Hamilton), 20 —7; W. Chapman (Hamilton) beat P. Bond (Frankton), 20—19; T. W. Gee (Te Awamutu) beat G. B. Lymburn (Hamil ton), 18 —17. j

Semi-finals.—Stewart beat Pilkington, 20 —18; Chapman and Gee ti£d, 22-all, on the 21st head. An extra head was played. Chapman winning by one point. Chapman had previously tied with Bond, ID-all, - but won the extra head by one point. In the final Chapman tied for the third tlrno in post-section play, his game with Stewart resulting, 20-all. The finalists wcro »-all on the 11th hcail. Chapman scored five on the 17th head, making the score 10—14 in his favour. Stewart scored two on each of the last two heads, the score ending:—• W. GREY LYNN TOURNEY An intermediate tournament for leads and seconds only was held by the Grey Lynn Bowling Club. In section A Stenberg (Hally-burton-Johnstone) and Hawley (Grey Lynn), tied, Hawley winning the play-off. Section B was won outright by Wilson (Grey Lynn). The final betweon Mickleborough, Shine, Lawson, Hawley (Grey-Lynn) and Monks, Somers, Arthur Mason, Wilson (Grey Lynn), will be played at 1 o'clock on Saturday.
