EAST COAST HIGHWAY

HEAVY TOURIST TRAFFIC KEREU BRIDGE REPAIRS [bt telegraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Tuesday Heavy tourist traffic continues on the highways in the Opotiki district, the new coastal route between Opotiki and Gisborne being very' popular. In spite of the loss of the Kereu Bridge, quite a number have crossed the river by making use of the bullock teams. A fair amount of trouble has been experienced at the Raukokore crossing, and several cars have become 6tuck in the water and required assistance. Many tourists are camping between Opotiki and Te Kalia. The equipment to replace the lost spans of the Kereu Bridge is now being assembled, and the bridge should be restored at an early date.
