FIRE SEEN FROM AIR

ALARM GIVEN .BY PILOT SURPRISE FOR OCCUPANTS [from our owx correspondent] LONDON, Dtc. 11 An airman flving over Brooklands to-day saw a house on landed, and gave the alarm. The brigade arrived before th* occupants of the house knew that their roof was burning. The house, Reed House, Old Avenue, Byfleet, which had an old-fashioned thatched root, practically destroyed. When a fire brigade officer, warned by the airman, called at the house, the occupant, Dr. C. H. Bavnes, and his family learned with astonishment that the roof, where the fire apparently originated, was burning furiously. Although three engines of the Woking fire brigade fought the fire, they could not save the building. Efforts were made to save some of the valuable furniture, and in this work the police and the firemen were assisted by people returning from church.
