DRAINAGE INSTALLATION A resolution protesting against suggested increased fares by the Devonport Steam Ferry Company was received by the Birkenhead Borough Council last night from the Takapuna Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr. E. .T. Osborne, said a conference in committeo had been held with the various North Shore Mayors and the Ferry Company, which undertook to call the conference together again before finalising any increase. The engineer, Mr. R. P. Worley, reported that work valued at £i8,062 had been completed by the contractors in connection with the'installation of a sewerage system at Birkenhead. The contract price was £18,939. Very little work remained to be done. A good start had been made on the new contract for the balance of the reticulation.' The acting-Chief Postmaster, Auckland, intimated that the new names suggested for the 30 names duplicated in streets in the metropolitan area were acceptable, with one exception. There was already an Akaraiut Avenue in Auckland, and the proposed change of Albert Street to Akarana Street would clash with this. Twenty-five residents in Arawa Street desired 'retention of this name. Tho council agreed to contribute £3O 2s 6d toward tne ensuing year's work of the organisation dealing with the centennial celebrations ,in 1940,
