.WORK IN CITY AREA REVIVAL IN NOVEMBER M&NY NEW DWELLINGS \ Expenditure on new buildings in the Auckland 1 city area during the first 11 months* iof this year has aggregated nearly £'"78,000, and while this is about £2C\OOO below that for the same j>criod of Vast year it exceeds tho total for the January-November period in 1935 by owcl- £280,000. This is tli)o highest monthly figure since August* and it has only been exceeded on thr[ee occasions this year. Included in the permits were those for large additions to existing business prcniises, extensive foundations for a lr>rgo' commercial block and a large block of nurses' quarters, while many were for alterations and additions to business premises and dwollngs. Permits ware also issued for 20 new houses. Of the 20 now houses twelve wore estimated to cost between £IOOO and £2OOO, there was one costing over £2OOO, one in excess of £4OOO and another estimated to cost between £SOOO and £6OOO. The average of the 29 dwellings was over £I3OO. Altogether 282 houses have been built this year, as compared with 318 for tho eleven months of last year and 271 in_ the January-November period of 1935.
