SCHOOL CALF CLUBS
ANNUAL FIELD DAYS HELD BAY OF PLENTY COMPETITION : The group calf championships were held recently under the auspices of the Tauranga Agricultural Club. The judges were Messrs. S. Steele and F. B. Hardstone, and the results were: —Senior, heavy breed: Julie Klink (Papamoa Native School), 91 points, 1; Irvin Ormsby (Te Puna), S8 points, 2; Digby Turner (Aongatcte), S7 points, 8. Junior, heavy breed: Don Lochhead (Te Puna), SO points, 1; Gwenda Murray (Tauranga), 8(> points, 2; William Stewart (Papamoa Xative) and Betty Murray (Tauranga), SO points, equal, 3. Senior, light breed: Mavis Sargent (Te Puna), 03 points, 1; Rita Ferguson (Pyes Pa Road), SS points, 2; John Carlylo. (Greerton), 88 points, 3. Junior, light breed: Rose Fitch (Papamoa Native), 02 points, 1; Noel Dawkins (Whakamarama), 90 points, 2; John Fitch (Papamoa Native), S9 points, 3. The results of tho record book competition, which was judged by Mr. A. J. Gibson, agricultural instructor for the Bay of Plenty schools, were announced as follows:—Dudley Mander (Otumoetai), 1; Betty Doidge (Tauriko), and Robert- Patton (Tauranga), equal, 2; Ted Pedley (Pyes Pa Road), 3. The Otorohanga Calf Club held its annual field daj| at the Otewa School recently. Mr. Sanderson, foreman of the Meadowland pedigree stud, acted as judge. -• - The prize-winners were:—Junior, grade Jerseys: Robert Sutherland, 1; M. Rankin, 2; Mary Sutherland, 3.. Senior, grade Jersuyas Jean Louden, 1; Isabelle Louden, 2; William Larsen, 3. Grade Friesians: Robert Larsen, 1; Roana Larsen, 2; Phyllis Larsen, 3. Handling and condition, senior, Isabelle Louden, 1; Jean Louden, 2; \V. Larsen, 3. Junior: M. Rankin. 1; R. Sutherland, 2; Robert Larsen, 3. Pet lambs: Beryl Daubney, 1; Pixie Rankin, 2; Joan.Daubney, 3. The Pukekapia School Calf Club held a successful competition day this week. Mr. C. Bailey judged the entries, and tho awards were as follows:—Yearling class, dairy type: Betty Huckle, 1; Alva Bryant, 2; Lois Cramp, 3. July calves: Betty Bailey, 1; Don Capstick, 2; Jim Burndred,, 3. August calves: Hazel Baker; 1; Lois Cramp, 2; Miriam Capstick,. 3. Best trained calf; Don Capstick, 1. Lambs: Pamela Comins, 1; Keith Mahon, 2; Wilma Capstick, 3.
