ROWING

INTER-COLLEGE EIGHTS NORTH SHORE CLUB'S OPENING ' Chief interest in rowing to-morrow afternoon will centre in the first schoolboys' eight-oared contest, to be held in Auckland. Crews representing Sacred Heart College and Mount Albert Grammar will try conclusions over a mile course parallel to Tamaki Drive. Spectators will be afforded an uninterrupted view of the race.

Both eights have been training consistently for many weeks, and, while the issue is very open, Mount Albert has the advantage of previous racing experience. Four members of this crew also represented their school against Wanganui Technical College in the fours event at the end of last season. Sacred Heart has oarsmen of a fine type who should give a good account of themselves. The event is timed to start at 3 p.m. The personnel of the crews will be as follows: Sacred . Heart College.—B. McCracken (stroke), K. McCarthy (7), R. Ockelford (6), J. Magill (5), G. Owen (4), D. Walls (3), D. Fox (2). L. Dunn (bow), W. McMaster (cox). . Mount Albert Grammar.—A. N. White (stroke), R. E. F. Mathews (7), D. W. R. White (6), D. W. Rollinson (5), G. F. Reed (4), J. M. Harvey (3), G. G. Wall (2), K. H. I. Easton (bow), K. J. Otter (cox). The North Shore Club will celebrate its official opening of the season with trial fours for the president's trophies. Many new members have enrolled, and the event should give a good indication of tho club's strength. The annual patrons' day At Home will be held at the boathouse of tho West End Club. Trial fours for trophies donated by tho patron, Mr. A. M. Paterson, will be rowed, while the eights contest for the Mortimer Fairs Memorial Shield will also be decided. The Anckland Club's programme will consist of trial fours for the Clark Shield, for which another large entry is expected. II previous form is maintained, the Waitemata Club should provide interesting races, while the St. George's Club is likely to make a good showing in its subscription trial fours.
