The guards at the Spanish Commissioner's office at Tetuan, Spanish Morocco, are reported to have fired on a crowd of elderly Moors, with women and children, carrying placards advertising their refusal to allow their young kinsmen td go to Spain "because so many went under broken promises, and many of them have not returned."

The firing killed several of the Moors and 50 others were arrested. Their ring-leaders were shot. ~

Skirmishes occurred all daV 9 between armed tribesmen entering from the desert and Phalangists patrolling the streets with machine-guns. Frontier guards stopped European residents who were attempting to flee to Tangier.

The riot culminated in a pitched battle, the demonstrators fighting back when the guards fired. Many Moorish guardsmen joined the rioters and fired on the Spaniards.
