HOUSES FOR EMPLOYEES

POWER BOARD FINANCE ASSURANCE FROM MR. LEE An assurance that legislation to en-able'-power boards to erect houses for their employees with money at 3 per cent, without the necessity for taking a poll of ratepayers, would be passed ' shortly, was given in a telegram received recently from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary in Charge of Housing, Mr. J. A. Lee. by the ElectricPower .Boards and Supply Authorities Association. Advice to this effect was communicated to the Waitemata Elec-tric-Power Board in a letter from the association received at its meeting yesterday. With a view to saving time and expense to the board, further negotiations were proceeding, with the object of having working plans and specificaions from the Housing Department made available to the board, the association reported. This would enable the board to proceed with any schemes proposed for the housing of its employees on the most favourable basis possible at present, and that it might thus be enabled to house servicemen at the points most suitable for the working of its area. The chairman, Mr. W. R. T. Leighton. remarked that the cheaper money would be very handy to the board later if the legislation was passed.
