ART AND POETRY
ADDRESS BY MR. J. W. SHAW
The theory that developments in modern poetry could be linked up with those of modern art was advanced by Mr. J. W. Shaw, when he addressed members of the Auckland Society of Arts last night at a social gathering held in the Sketch Club rooms. The president of the society, Mr. Richard O. Gross, presided. "Art to-dav, like poetry, is entirely different from that of twenty years ago," said Mr. Shaw. "But I think one can get the right perspective on the matter by regarding true art as a great stream, which though joined by many lesser streams, is yet a whole." During the evening songs were given by Miss Ela Hutchison, her accompanist being Miss Lenore Dunnet.
