TALKS ON FLOWER-GROWING ~ v i Three lectures were, given at the monthly meeting this week of the Auckland Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society, held in. St. Mary's Hall, Parncll. -Mr, W. F. Sutton continued his talks on the growing of dahlias. MrWatts explained various points in the raising of chrysanthemums and Mr. K. C. Brown described, the methods of .growing sweet peas. A display of roses .was provided by members and the results were as foilows:— Anialeur Section.—Six roses, Mr. Bidwell; I, Mr. Cowau, three roses, Mr. Lee, 1, Mr. Bidwell, Mr Cowan, 3; three roses; Mr. Bidwell, 1, Mr. Cowan. 2, one rose, Mr. Bidwell, 1, Mr. Cowan, 'J. Mr. Lee, 3; J; S. Hopkins prize, Mr. Bidwell; champion rose, Mr. Lee. Novice Section. —Six roses, Mr. Bidwell, 1, Mrs. 11. A. Scott. •->; threo roses, Mrs. R, A Scott, 1, Mr. Bidwell, 2; threo roses, Mrs. Thaxtcr, 1, Mr. Bidwell, 2, Mrs. R. A* Scott, 3; one rose, Mr. Bidwell, 1, Mrs. Thaxtcr, 'J, Mrs. R. A. Scott, .3; champion rose, Mrs. Thaxter. The competition for the Sir Joseph Smith Shield resulted.—Mr. C. N. Nicholls, 1, Mrs. Browne and Mr. W. Cowan, equal,'2.
