OUTBREAKS OF FIRE
HOUSE AT ONE TREE HILL EXTENSIVE DAMAGE CAUSED Extensive damage was clone to a sixroomed house in Karetu Road, One Tree Hill, by fire about 4.30 o'clock yesterday morning. The call was answered by brigades from the Remuera and Ellerslie stations, but the flames had a good hold when the machines arrived. Working strenuously, the firemen soon had the' fire under control, but not before one room, a hallway and the adjoining wash-house had been extensively damaged. Heat and smoke caused further damage throughout the house. Owned by Mr. .T. liolton, of Remuera, the house was occupied by Mr. 1. Evans, and was insured for £650 in the Phoenix Office. The contents were not insured. Machines from the Onehunga and Mount Roskill stations answered a call to Xewsome Street, off Prince's Street, Onehunga, about 10 o'clock yesterday morning, when the ceiling of a house occupied by a family of Maoris caught alight. The outbreak was of a minor nature, however, and the fire was extinguished within a few minutes. Further calls were received by the Remuera brigade to Shore Road and Sterling Road, Remuera, later in the day, when little difficulty was experienced in suppressing gorse fires which broke out on vacant sections.
