BUILDING ACTIVITY APPRENTICES SIGNED UP [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAKEI, Thursday "A pleasing feature of tho placement figures is that n number of apprentices have recently been signed up, and several others are likely to be. All trades are concerned, particularly building and its allied trades," said Mr. J. C. Hill, Whangarei placement officer, to-day. "The abnormal amount of building which has been in progress in Whangarei for some months, and which is still continuing, has no doubt had an effect in stimulating work, and the remilt is that there aro not quite sufficient skilled men availablo for building and skilled jobs generally." Mr. Hill said that there was not an acute shortage of farm labour, although there was a steady demand and quito a number of positions were being filled each week. For the week ended October 22 a record number of 24 placements was made.
