DISCUSSION AT WHAKATANE

To discuss engineering works proposed in the Whakatane district a meeting took place in Whakatane yesterday between Mr. Newncham, inspecting engineer of the Public Works Department, Mr. H. H. P. llonayne, district engineer, and the chairman and officers of the chief local bodies. Visits of inspection were made to suggested aerodrome sites at Poroporo and Paroa, and anangenients were made to have them surveyed. An area on the river front was decided against as being too close to the hills. There was also somo discussion regarding the construction of tho proposed East Coast State main highway along the coastal route, but tho engineers explained that the surveyors had been delayed in this work and no definite decision had yet been arrived at..
