PARROT'S DISEASE

Sir,—ln regard to Dr. ,T. P. Hastings' suspicions of psittacosis in budgerigars, surely Dr. Hastings would have been well advised to have awaited the pathologist's report before frightening thousands of keepers of budgerigars by bis startling diagnosis. Now that this matter bus been ventilated, the public would be interested to know the number of proved cases of psittacosis in budgerigars. There are millions of budgerigars kept by aviculturists, and the Budgerigar Society of New Zealand (Incorporated) would be interested to tabulate all known cases of psittacosis in this particular specie. We would be pleased if Dr. Hastings would place his information at our disposal. Again it would be interesting to know the percentage of mortality, in relation to the number of persons who keep budgerigars. The percentage is surely infinitesimal. J. Reg. Walker, t President, The Budgerigar Society of N.Z. (Inc.).
