INSTITUTE AFFAIRS
Arapuni.—The following members were elected to the committee: —Mesdames Long, Scwcll, Wilson, Campbell, Seagar, Cook and Geddes. The president, Mrs. Aikman, presided. Organdie petal work was demonstrated by Mrs. Williams and faggoting by Mrs. Norman. The competitions were won as follows: —Pikelets, Airs, l'ishcr; vase of flowers, Airs. Seagar; general competition, Mrs. Campbell. Waerenga.—A Scottish afternoon was held recently and Mrs. W. A. Jefferies presided. The uoints prize for a plate of shortbread was won by Mrs. ,S. Grant, and one for a handmade handkerchief by. Mrs. C. Storey. A Scottish competition was won by Mrs. W. F. Carter . Hillcrest. —Mrs. Haines presided at the last meeting. Competition results were as follows: —Best daffodils: Mrs. D. Smith, 1; Mrs. Morlcy, 2; Airs. Harsnell, 3. Hand-sewn pillowslip: Mrs. Haines, 1; Mrs. Morle.y, 2. A letter was received from the institute link in Hillcrest, Natal. Morrinsville. —The last meeting was presided over by Mrs. J. T. Osborn. The points competition resulted as follows! —Marmalade: Airs. Nicholson, 1; Mrs. Finch, 2; Airs. Marshall, 3. Pickles: Airs. Brighouse, 1; Airs. P. J. Cooper, 2. Knitting: Airs. French, 1; Airs. Brighouse, 2; Airs. Cooper, inn., 3. Child's garment: Airs. P. .T. Cooper, 1; Airs. Burnett, 2; Airs. P. J. Cooper, jun., 3.. The play-reading circle presented a play, and Aliss AI. Strevens sang. A lecture and demonstration on first-aid was given by Air. L. C. Edwards and Air. J. Owens,
Alotumaoho. —A fancy dress dance was recently held. A link letter was read giving details of the coming-of-age of the British women's institute movement. A talk on Stewart Island was given by Airs. Leunan. The daffodil competition was won by Airs. T. Stark, and the plain scone competition by Airs. Wilson, with Airs. Hart second.
To Kan what a.--A demonstration of a, wifMiing machine was uiven at the last meeting, over which Airs. C. Close presided. A competition for the best jar of spring flowers was won by Mrs. Stavte. with Aliss Stewart second. Eureka. —An appeal for gifts or money for the patients on Alakogai Island was received at the last meeting, when A.lrs. Harris presided. The sales table did excellent business. A competition for something new from something old was won by Airs. Harris, with Airs. Boss Hinton second. Pianoforte solos were given by Airs. Cyril Masters.
Wainui-Ahipara.—The last meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Stuart Masters. It was decided to send two delegates to the meeting to be held by the residents of Kaitaia for the purpose of erecting a rest room. Competition results were as follows: Sponge cake: Miss M. Kirtlan, 1; Mrs. J. Berghen, 2. Spring bloom: Mrs. Stuart Masters, 1; Mrs. Ivan Berghen, 2. A demonstration of art wool work was given by Mrs. Vazey. Glen Massey. The vice-president presided at the last meeting. A. cooking competition for queen cakes was keenly contested. Te Kopuru. —A demonstration or wood pulp flower-making was given bv Mrs. W. A. Savident and Miss Wortlswortli. Competitions were for a thrift article, a stocking mat, three handkerchiefs and something made from matchbox tops.
