WILSON HOME FEES

INCOME FROM TRUST FUND OTHER BOARDS' PATIENTS Tho high fees which it was found necessary to charge patients in the Wilson Home for Crippled Children, Takapuna, were criticised by Mr. 0. T. Parvin at a meeting of tho Auckland Hospital Board yesterday. He considered IGs a day to bo unreasonable, but other members pointed out that each child was receiving specialised attention.

A report received from the Wilson Homo Committee stated that the approximate daily cost for 'Jo patients was ]"s (3d each. The estimated income from tho trust fund, worked out 011 a "per patient" basis, was Is 6d a day, so that the net cost to the board would be 26s a day. Ton of the 25 children at present in the home came from other hospital districts and there was frequently reluctance on the part of other boards to guarantee the cost of treatment.

It was recommended that steps should be taken to seek legislative authority under which other boards could be compelled to pay the Auckland board the full cost of the treatment amounting to 16s a day and, if this suggestion were approved, this would be the fixed charge for all cases. Patients in tho Auckland Hospital district would be paid for according to the means of their parents, but it was the function of the board to provide expert treatment for all cases, irrespective of' the ability of the parents to pay. The report was adopted.
