DEAN OF AUCKLAND
APPOINTMENT BY SYNOD CANON W. FANCOURT CHOSEN By resolution of the Anglican Synod yesterday, Canon TV. Fancourt, vicar of the Cathedral Church and Parish of St. Mary's, was appointed Dean of Auckland. The resolution was moved by Mr. C. J. Tunks, who said it simply proposed to increase the dignity of the ricar of the Cathedral Church and Parish. The legacy given to the diocese for a cathedral and the steps to be taken in regard to that matter made it appropriate that chapter should be completed by the appointment of its head, -which was a dean. It was also appropriate that th<a cathedral church vicar should be appointed to the office. Mr. Tunks added that Canon Fancourt had practically carried out the duties of a dean in the past and he would worthily fulfil the new position. The motion was carried with acclamation.
In expressing thanks Canon Fancburt said it was something-to be proud of to be dean of the largest city in New Zealand. He expressed gratitude at the consideration received from Archbishop Averill during his eight years as vicar of St. Mary's.
