NEW SOCIETY FORMED
PEOPLE FROM CUMBERLAND The inaugural general meeting of the Cumberland and Westmoreland Society in Auckland was held on Tuesday evening in the Legion of Frontiersmen's rooms. Mrs. E. Parkinson presided. The society is a branch of that founded in London by Christopher Maughan, having for its patron Lord Lonsdale (Lowther Castlo, Penrith). Jt was decided at the meeting to write to London for all information and to link up with the parent association. The following officers were elected:President, Mr. E. Parkinson; vicepresidents, Mrs. I.' Little, Mr. John Broadbent; • secretary and treasurer, Mrs. J. Broadbeut; committee. Mrs E; Parkinson, Miss Telford, Mr. Graveson, Mr. Atkinson, Mr. Hewson. A feature of the society's future meetings will be iho 'singing of the famous Cumberland hunting song "John P-jel,'' At the conclusion of the .meeting musical items were rendered by Mr. Paris Cowper. Those present included 1 : —Mesdames Graveson, Hewson, Potter, Hutchings, Lewthwaite, Atkinson, Buchanan and Perry.
