Hawke's Bay, ia a single morning, all poisoned through eating pbosphorised pollard laid for rabbits, was brought before the 'notica of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society in a letter from Mr. H. A< Burch, Eastbourne. Mr. Burch's state* mcnt was endorsed in a second letter from Mr. F. D. Robson, curator of the Hawke's Bay Game Farm. Mr. Burch stated that he had been informed that the death of kiwis' from, this cause was by no means rare, Quite often cases of the kind were ported. "Where rabbit poisoning is necessary in areas known to contain feathered game, or where kiwis are known to exist, as at Ngatapa, surely some other poison could be used," wrote Mr. Burch. "It seems quite certain that almost any bird will take phosphorised pollard." Mr. Robson's letter stated that the same poison had killed off all pheasants on the property where it was laid. '■
