EXPORT OF SCRAP IRON
DOMINION PROHIBITION MISUNDERSTANDING IN, TOKIO - A- — [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] , - WELLINGTON". Thursday A Tokio cablegram stating that the Japanese people are being informed that New Zealand has prohibited the export of scrap iron to Japan was brought under the notice of the IPrime Minister, Mr. Savage, to-day. He at once pointed out that such a presentation of the position was misleading. " We have gone out of our way," he declared, " to make it clear that the prohibition does not apply to Japan alone, but that it applies to all countries. Wo want to develop the iron industry in New Zealand, and Ave want to be sure that we have not already disposed of things we need for our own industry. That is the only reason for prohibiting the export of scrap iron.'"
