GREEN PHEASANTS
NEW TYPE OF BIRD PRODUCTION IN HAWKE'S BAY V ' FINE SPORTING QUAUTIES j [from our own correspondent] WELLINGTON, Thursday | A new typ e of pheasant of fin<jr sporting qualities "has been evolved by. Mr. F. D. Robson, curator of the? Hawke's Bay Game Farm, at Green® meadows. A description of these bird| was contained in a letter received by the council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society from Mr. H. A, Burch, Eastbourne. "This bird is entirely different from any I have previously seen," wrote Mr. Burch. "It is definitely larger than the mongolian and is of dark green plumage, instead of the usujaj copper-red colour. The hens arc almost black and speckled, and resemble Mi Ancona hen. Owing to their being so fast on the wing they are concentrating on these birds this year, in preference to the mongolian type. Should any member be visiting Hawke's Bay I would reeommend a visit to the game farm." - It was decided that the secretary, Sir. E. J. C. Wiffin, should visit, the Greenmeadows Game Farm on a forthcoming visit to Hawke's Bay and inspect the green pheasants. f
