ELECTRIC ORGAN
CONCERT CHAMBER RECITAL There was a large audience in the Town Hall concert chamber last night when a recital on the Hammond electric argan was given by Mr. Trevor Sparling, associate city organist. The organ is a modern development and makes use of no pipes, reeds or vibrating parts. The sounds are produced electrically and are amplified through loud speakers, a remarkable range and quality of tone being obtainable. Organ tones wore reproduced faithfully and the pieces played by Mr. Sparling gave an opportunity for the full range of the instrument to be displayed. Perhaps one of the most delightful numbers was Bach's well-known chorale "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," and in this the sweet, soft tones of flute and solo stop were used to good effect. The last number on the first part of the programme, Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, by Bach, was stirringly Slayed. Other pieces included he ygne," by Saint Saens, and a selection from " The Pirates of Penzance." Assisting artists were Mr. E. J. Thomas and the Lyric Quartette, the former singing the bass solos " The Great Awakening" (Kramer) and "Bless This House " (Brabe). The Lyric Quartette was heard in " Sunset " (Van dor Water) and " Sylvia" (Oley Speaks).
