FUTURE OF FLYING
CONTROL OP AERODROMES PROPERTY OF LOCAL BODIES 4 LANDING FEES AS REVENUE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday "If aviation develops as I think it will, every borough and town will eventually have an aerodrome for its own use/' said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, when inspecting the Rukuhia aerodrome this morning. " Local bodies will maintain aerodromes in the future just as harbour boards look after harbours at present," he added. " They will also chargo landing fees as an item of revenue, just as they do for other public services."
AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP ENTRIES CLOSE TO-DAY Entries close to-day for the aviation scholarship at present being offered by the Auckland Aero Club under the auspices of the New Zealand Herald. More than 150 candidates have entered so far, and it is expected that the total will be substantially in excess of this number by the time the office of the club closes this afternoon. Most of the entrants have already attended one of the preliminary lectures, at which the operation and function of the controls ot an aeroplane are explained by means of a model. Arrangements will be made, however, to enable the remaining candidates to hear one of the lectures which are given by the club's instructors before each undergoes his or her test in the air. When all the candidates have had their test flights the eight best performers will -Undergo further tests, as a result of which the winner will be selected. The winner will receive free tuition until he or sh\? has qualified for an A licence. The remaining finalists will become associate members of the club.
