INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

Auckland Centre: —A programme of Maori songs and a play by the junior circle and pupils of the Queen Victoria School for Maori Girls was enjoyed at the last mooting, over which Mrs. C. Neal presided. Awhina Maori Institute:—The first birthday party was recently celebrated when over 100 guests were present. Mrs. S. Phillips, president of the Auckland federation, and Mrs. Epps, voluntary organiser, were the guests of honour. Bouquets of native flowers were presented to them, and to the president. Mrs. Williams, and the secretary, Mrs. J. Masters. The birthday cake was cut by the president. After the speeches a full Maori programme, arranged by Mrs. T. Royal, was given, 'as well as items by members of the Manaia and Kaiana Maori institutes.

Marainarua-Kopuku : Many new members were enrolled at tho last meeting. A demonstration and lecture on tea and coffee-making was given. The competition for six biscuits made from one foundation recipe was won bv Mrs. Hollo way.

Whitford: —The second birthday party was recently held. The birthday cake was cut by the oldest member, Mrs. Booker, sen. The dramatic circle members produced a comedy which was much enjoyed. The novelty competition was won by Air. J. Stenbeck. Silverdale: —A visit to the motor camp at Warkworth was paid by members recently. An excellent lunch was served and the rest of the time was spent in visiting various points of interest in the township.

Ngatea:—The first meeting of tho recently-formed Hauraki Plains group was held this month, Airs. Benny prosiding over 200 members. A brief address was given by Airs. Phillips, president of the Auckland federation. Tho making of a dressmakers' model was demonstrated by Airs. Stunnell and Airs. Drake. A number of items were also given and were much enjoyed.
