CHANGE IN OFFICE HOURS KARANGAHAPE ROAD LIGHTING The office of the Auckland ElectricPower Board in Queen Street will remain open on Friday evenings during the pleasure of the board, and will be closed on Saturday mornings, according to a decision made at a meeting of the board yesterday afternoon. The matter was raised as the result of a letter from the New Zealand Employers' Association in regard to the award governing the hours of office employees.
Negotiations had taken place with representatives of the Local Authorities Officers' Union in an endeavour to reach finality on the question of Saturday closing, and a clause acceptable to both parties, making the necessary alterations in hours, had been drafted.
"1 am pleased that we have been able to bring this to a successful issue," said the chairman, Mr. S. J. Harbntt. "The board will now be able to keep the oilice open on Friday nights and so give the staff Saturdays off duty."
A letter sent bv the general manager, Mr. IE H. Hartley, to the Rarangaliape IJoad Business Promotion Society in connection with .a proposed community lighting scheme was approved. iTho letter set out a suggested agreement and alternative financial proposals for the scheme, which, if carried out, will extend on both sides of Karangahape Rom] from Symomls Street to Ponsonby I'oad. A total ol 90 stove and water beating installations had been completed by the Auckland Flectric-Power Board in the past week, reported Mr. Bartley, and the board bad maintained an average of (50 a Meek. Fifty-five of the installations were rentals and remained the property of the board.
