SUMMER SPORTS
CLUBS OPEN SEASON CROQUET', BOWLS AND TENNIS The bowling greens and croquet lawns of the Waitemata Club were officially opened for the season at Northcote on Saturday afternoon. The inauguration of these summer games in ideal weather attracted a large number of players and spectators. The first bowl was delivered by Mrs. R. G. Holland in the absence of the wife of the president, Mr. G. B. Chinnery, who declared the green open for play. The croquet lawns adjoining were also declared open by Mr. Chinnery, after the president of the croquet club, Mrs. N. S. Davidson, had driven the first ball through the hoops. The opening ceremony of the Birkenhead and Northcote Tennis Club at Northcote was also attended by a large number of people including representatives of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. The first ball was served by Miss Mary Brough, and the president, Mr. H. W. Tver, declared the ten courts open for the season.
The Takapuna Crpquet Club's lawns were officially opened on Saturday afternoon by the president, Mrs. P. O'Halloran, who played the first ball. Short addresses were given by the president of the North Shore Croquet Club, Mrs. T. M. Macdonald, and the president of the bowling club, Mr. Cameron.
