MEAT IN LONDON

PRICES AT SMITHFIELD GOOD LAMB CONSUMPTION CHILLED BEEF TRADE QUIETER Consumption of lamb in the British market continues to be satisfactory for the time of the rear, according to the weekly report of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board. Values for lightweight lambs remain firm, while heavyweights are slightly easier.

The market for wether mutton is easier, with trade slow. In ewes conditions are quiet and unchanged. Frozen beef is meeting with a steady demand at unchanged prices. Chilled beef is slightly lower, owing to an easing in the demand. Owing to large supplies of New Zealand porker pigs, lightweights have eased. Other descriptions are steady and unchanged. Short spot stocks of New Zealand baconers have caused prices in this line to harden. Following are the latest quotations announced by the board, together with the values ruling at the close of the previous week: —
