CONGRESS DISCUSSIONS TRAINING FOR PUBLIC HEALTH Discussing..the. work of the Nurses' Congress in London, our correspondent wrote on August 8 that the congress had focussed its attention largely on the education of the nurse, particularly that aspect of it. which dealt with preventive medicine and the sociological outlook in the training of the nurse. The work of the public health nurse, her training and the development of post-graduate courses was also a subject of great interest. Special sessions were devoted to the modern development of mental nursing, occupational therapy .as a factor, in psychotherapeutics and to mid wifeiy and obstetrical nursing. Dietetics and the exchange of nurses between countries was another interesting subject. "The congress was most wonder fully organised,"- said Miss M. Lambw, director of the Division of Nursing m the New Zealand Health Department. -"The British nurses have given us most outstanding hospitality and it was particularly interesting to he present'at the Royal garden party. Both Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary spent some time talking to the representatives of the various countries, and Queen Mary, who spoke to Miss J. Bicknell, president of the New Zealand Registered Nurses' Association, recalled several points of interest during her visit to New Zealand.
