REPRESENTATIVE GAMES THREE FIXTURES PENDING HAWKE'S BAY ON SATURDAY Various matters in connection with several representative matches to be played by Auckland teams during this month were discussed at a meeting of the management committee of the Auckland llughy Union last evening. With regard to the match against Hawke's Bay on Saturday, the names of the following referees will be submitted to the visiting team for its choice:— Messrs. J. G. C. Wales, G. Peace, C. F. Paull, C. W. Henderson .and J. G. Gasparich. Messrs. A. Tilly and 0. S. Harvey were appointed managers of the Auckland learn for Saturday, and Messrs. G. Nicholson and A. Tilly of the side to play Manawatu at Eden Park next Wednesday. Mr. J. Sweeney will accompany the Auckland fifteen in that capacity on Wednesday week for the match against North Auckland. It was announced that tho Hawke's Bay team would arrive this afternoon at -1 o'clock by the Rotorua express, and would be met by members of the management committeo. The Hawke's Bay ulayers will be entertained at the professional wrestling match at the Tov.n Hall on Saturday evening, and it was expected that they would leave Auckland on Sunday. The Manawatu side will arrive on Sunday at 7 p.m. and depart for New Plymouth on Thursday to keep its engagement with Taranaki on Saturday week. Arrangements are being completed for suitable entertainment of the players. The match against Auckland next Wednesday will commence at 3.30 o'clock. Match With Wellington Members of the Wellington team will arrive by the limited express on Friday morning, September 17, for the annual match against Auckland the following day. Jt is nxpected that a particularly large attendance will witness this game. The Auckland Rugby Union will entertain former representatives and officials, and also the secondary schoolboys during the afternoon. A complete broadcast of the second test match between New Zealand and the Springboks at Christchurch, on Saturday, will bo made at Eden Park. A deputation from tho junior management board requested that a definite number of representative matches be arranged each season for the junior grades, and that more curtain-raisers at the Eden Park No. 1 ground be played by junior teams. Following considerable discussion, it was decided to defer the question of the representative games until next season, and that of the curtain-raisers for one week. Question of Relegation The Suburbs senior second division team made application for a match against College Rifles, the bottom team in the Gallaher Shield competition. The result of this game, in accordance with the regulations, would decide whether Suburbs will gain senior status next season, in which case College Rifles would bo relegated to tho senior second division grade. The College Rifles team protested against having to play this match, contending that, had its matches against Marist and Training College been played, its position may have been altered. It was pointed out, however, that the latter game was one in the last series which was not played as tho competition had been declared closed. Therefore, even allowing for a possible win for College Rifles in the Marist fixture, its position would not have been improved. It was decided to play tho match between Suburbs and College Rifles on Saturday week, and to invite a delegation from the College Rifles Club to meet the chairman and deputychairman, who would fully explain the committee's decision. Farewell to Springboks Mr. V. G? Orrell reported on the successful preliminary arrangements for the farewell ball to the Springboks, to be held at the Peter Pan cabaret on September 30. In ; addition to prominent Rugby officials, it was * advised that the Mayor. S : r Ernest Davis, j would also be present. A letter of congratulation was forwarded to Mr W. M. Milliken, the former Auckland representative, on his appointment to a position in the Coionial Service. .Nigeria. The Auckland Rugby Referees' Association submitted a number of proposals for the alteration of the present system of appointments of referees. Mr. J. Sweeney stated that considerable dissatisfaction at the work of the referees' appointment board was felt among members of the association. , Mr. G. Foy, the management committee s representative on tho control board, _ indicated that the board had worked amicably throughout the season and had endeavoured to give every satisfaction in a difficult task It was resolved to defer the discussion until next Wednesday evening, and to invite a deputation from the Jteferees Association to be present. C. Burgess was granted a transfer from North Shore to Grafton Applications for reinstatements from !R. J. Cooper and n. Cooper were approved. A combined Marist team was granted permission to travel to 'luakau on bciturday. The following ground officials were appointed for Saturday:—Western Springs Mr. N. Jenkins; lakapuna, Mr. F. WELLINGTON, Wednesday The Auckland Tramways Rugby team beat the Christchurch Tramways team by 11 points to O in the first match for tho Kohn Shield at the Basin Reserve to-day in excellent conditions before a fair attendance. The teams failed to produce a high standard of play, though the forwards on each sido worked hard throughout. Auckland had the advantage in weight, and on the whole produced better teamwork in tile vanguard. They hooked the ball consistently, but this was nullified by the failure of the' five-eighths as an attacking force. On the Canterbury side the ball rarely went further than the halfback. The winners' points came from tries by A. Kinnaird (2), J. Anderson and J. Macey. Anderson converted one try. Auckland will meet Well- , ingtonrjm4ho--.final -match.

The teams were:—Christchurch: A. Dnncraft, R. Denser*, E. J. Parkes, R. S. Thompson, T. Alexander, R. H. Robertson, F. Holmes (captain), J. Monroe, D. W. Norrie, D. H. Gordon, L. Southon, N. Dalzell, FG. Lee, G. Browne. Auckland: R. Price, A. Kinnaird, J. Stockloy, J. Macey, J. Anderson (captain), R. Lockie, A. Pearce, T. Blood, K. Somers, J. Stewart, A. Gunn, J. Coughlan, B. Taplin, B. Richardson, M. J. Buchanan. Mr. A. R. Morris was referee. When a Christchurch player sent a clearin!? kick toward his own corner flag Kinnaird raced up and touched down. The kick failed. Soon afterward Anderson kicked to tlie corner flap, Auckland heeled, and, in spife of poor passing, Kinnaird went over near the posts. Anderson converted. Shortly afterward Somers fielded a kick and passed to Anderson, who ran strongly to hand off tacklcrs and score in the corner. His kick was just outside. Almost immediately Stockley side-stepped an opponent and Mjicey had an easy run in. The kick was unsuccessful. FRIENDLY MATCH A friendly Rugby match was.played yesterday between Farmers' Trading Company and Radio, Limited, the latter winning by 10 points to 11. Black, Blackwell, Darby and Nunns scored tries for the winners, Barry converting two. Fagan, Evans and Tucker scored for Farmers' Trading, Paton converting one. THE LEAGUE CODE SYDNEY CLUB'S OFFER PROPOSAL NOT ACCEPTED An application by cable from the St. George Club, Sydney, to piny a scries of matches at Carl aw Park this month was discussed at last evening's meeting of the management committee of the Auckland lUigbv League.

Tile chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, saia that the request needed careful considoration. The St. George's team would be prepared to play two Saturday matches and one Wednesday same, the first contest to be held on September is. An offer had been received from Mr. F. Burge, the former international forward, to coach the Auckland side for a period of two weeks during the Sydney teams visit. The committee would also have to take into consideration the fact that an offer of a visit from another Sydney club had already been refused. After lengthy discussion, the committee decided to advise the St. George Club that, owing to the lateness of the season, and the fact that an Australian representative team had played in Auckland recently, arrangements could not be made for the visit. Jt was decided to congratulate the Richmond Club on winning: the senior championship. Tho chairman stated that the standard of play shown by Richmond was very high. Mr. E. I\. Asher, on behalf of the Maori Control Board, made a presentation to the committee of a framed photograph of the New Zealand Maori team which defeated the Kanparoos. Mr. Grey Campbell, in expressing appreciation of the gift, said that the victory was an historic event in League football. It was decided to seek the co-operation of all referees and members of the St. John Ambulancs Brigade in removing injured players to t]ie side-line. The following transfers were approved:— L.
