TRAVEL TALK

BUSINESS GIRLS' LUNCHEON l» CORONATION SCENES "The Duchesses of Kent and Gloucester aro just as beautiful as we should judge them to he from their photos," said .Mr. 1?. Milne, when lie spoke oil iiis recent trip abroad at the business Girls' Luncheon, held yesterday in the Milno and Chovce Reception Hall. He had had seats in Trafalgar Square which gave an excellent view of the Coronation procession, and owing to a traffic hold-up the carriages containing Queen Marv, the two little Princesses and the Duchesses were stopped for about 10 minutes just outside his window. Queen Mary was a wonderfully regal figure and looked magnificent in her Coronation robes. During his stay in New York Air. Milne was impressed by the generosity of the Americans, and also by their ignorance regarding New Zealand. Manj- of those he met had never heard of it, and few had any idea- at all where it was. "1 think to most New Yorkers, the world is New York and 'that is all that matters," he said. He had looked at an atlas owned by an American schoolboy, and found that it contained only maps of the United States. "Air hostesses in America hare to pass a very high efficiency test for character and personality," he said, "and they are very charming." On his way home, he had flown across America, a distance of 3000 miles, leaving New York at six at night, and arriving at Los Angeles in time for breakfast at eight in the. morning, and the air hostess had made all the passengers feel that they were at a happy, informal party. Mr. Milne also visited Paris. The Parisian women were some of the best dressed to-day, he thought. They favoured black or navy with touches ot" white, and their clothes seemed to fit and their make-up to blend with their surroundings in a distinctive way.
