ALL DEBTS PAID GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY GOOD FINANCIAL POSITION "A short time ago wo had a debt of £IOOO and an old lniiUling. To-day we have a new building entirely free of debt.'' said Archbishop Avcrill in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet at the annual meeting of the Girls' Friendly Society last nijjlifc. The diocesan secretary's report stated that the outstanding feature of the current year was tho successful eflort of the executive and council completely to extinguish the bank overdraft on the present building. There was now a balance at the bank of £.331. Besides the payment of ordinary lodge accounts it had been possible also to buy a chesterfield for the social hall sincl now curtains, crockery and cutlery. The Sunday afternoon teas had boon well attended and working girls in the city had taken advantage of the offer of obtaining tea at tho lodge at midday. From seven to .30 girls were present daily and extra help had been obtained at the counter during lunchtime for this purpose. Congratulations on the society's financial position wore extended by Archbishop Averill, who also expressed pleasure at the fact that the society was offering a friendly hand to girls outside its own membership, fie urged that the lodge should not bo allowed to develop merely into a boarding house as in the present day the need for ihs principles of the Girls' Friendly Society was a very real one. At the .conclusion of bis address the Archbishop presented the honorary accountant, Mr. H. Dyer, with a set oi golf clubs in appreciation of his services to tho society for many years past.
