DRAINAGE REGULATIONS OBSERVANCE AGREED UPON [BY TELKGBAPH —OWN COIUtKSI'ONDENT] "WELLINGTON, Tuesday The Government Housing Department lias agreed to comply with the Lower Hutt Boroiigh Council regulations in regard to drainage. This means that, where two or more houses are connected to a sewer by a common drain, it shall be Gin. in diameter instead of 4in. The director of housing construction, Mr. A. Tyndall, and his chief inspector called on Mr. J. W. Andrews, Mayor of Lower Hutt, and Mr. F. Mainland, borough engineer, and discussed the question of sewerage disposal in regard to State houses being erected within the borough boundaries. "After considerable discussion, Mr. Tyndall gave way 011 tho matter and agreed to abide by the council's requirements and uso Gin. common drains for connecting groups of two or more houses to our sewers," said Mr. Andrews. "Mr. Tyndall suggested that those 4in. common drains which had : already been laid should bo approved by us, but I pointed out that my council could not accede to such a request. The 4in. drains would have to be removed and replaced by those of larger calibre. On behalf of his department Mr. Tyndall eventually agreed to this course. "My council is pleased to find that the Government has at long last listened to reason and has recognised the need for safeguarding public health.
