LEPER HOSPITAL

NEW PENRHYN STATION IMPROVED COMMUNICATIONS In order to give efficient treatment closer to hand, a new leprosy hospital has been established at Penrhyn Island, according to Dr. E. P. Ellison, officer in charge of the Cook Islands medical department, who is at present on furlough in New Zealand. The station, he said, is not in opposition to Makogai, but it is more easily accessible, and is under the control of one of his assistants. Dr. Ellison also remarked upon the improvements being made in Pacific communications. Manahiki and Penrhyn had recently been equipped with new wireless stations, and Pukapuka, or Danger Island, was soon to have one. The additions would provide valuable connections with the outside world and would speed up the inter-island communications.
