TASMAN LINERS
SUGGESTED RACE INTERNATIONAL ASPECT SYDNEY, August 28 Prior to sailing yesterday, Captain Davey, of the Awatea, said he had not been officially informed of tho proposed five hours' delay in the Awatea's departure from Auckland next Friday, but he would welcome it because it would put the vessel on her mettle and give her an opportunity of showing her prowess. Ho emphasised that there would bo no speeding if the weather was rough. Tho Sydney Morning Herald says etat if there is a race between the Awatea and the Mariposa it will be watched with tho keenest interest, not only on both sides of the Tasman, but in Britain and America also, as it will become something more than a race between two rival liners —it will be an international match with tho prestige of two great maritime nations at stake.
