DAMAGE TO COTTAGE
AXE USED ON STATE HOUSE MARAUDERS TAKE'TIMBER [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Saturday The contractors'for the State houses at Miramar have had some trouble with marauders carrying off ends of timber ' for firewood and occasionally pieces of greater value, but Thursday night was the first occasion of wilful damage to any of the buildings. A cottage was attacked, apparently with an axe, three window sashes being hacked about.
The foreman considers the damage was done by children, but this view is not shared by some'of the workmen, who take the view that it was done by adults. Some think it a mode of revenge upon the caretaker for being prevented from removing dockings, or by someone trying to get in, though the damage is beyond range of the latter theory. . ' *
