RETURNED SOLDIERS
DANCE AT HUNTLY "RACING CARNIVAL"' ; The Hiintlv Returned Soldiers' Association held a successful racing carnival dance in the Town Hall on Thursday evening. Red, white and blue were the predominating colours in the decorative scheme, festoons of lights in these colours, in the centre of which huffg a large cluster of balloons, were suspended from the ceiling. A novelty of the function was that each dance was listed as a racing event. In a stage in the centre of the floo£ marked "Enclosuie" the orchestra played popular music, each of the musicians being dressod as a jockey. Continuous dancing was provided by a special broadcasting outfit which had been installed to play dance music when the orchestra were resting. Two prizes were presented for each dancing event, the winners being ,8p follows:—Welcome handicap < walt?.)s" Miss M. Turton and Mr. R. Hedley (who also won the blue ribbon), and Mr. Yates; Mahuta stakes (polonaise), Miss G. Swarbrick and Mr. Burndred; cookhouse (supper waltz), Miss Singor and Mr. Mail; Waihi welter (waltz), .Miss D. Greemvell and Mr. J. Aslieroft; Anzac stakes, (fox trot), Miss Brook and Mr. Glazer; truckers' gallop (lancers), Mrs. Brooks and Miss Brooks; defaulters' stakes (Paul Jones), Mrs. C. Craw and Mr. Ainscongh; Starrtown derby (excuse me fox trot), Mr. and Mrs. Nay lor; Rotownro steeples (veleta waltz), Aliss J. Chisholm and Mr. Seed; Blighty sprint (log cabin), Misses 11. Astburv and L. man; Glen Afton shorts (jazz), Aiisa Baker and Mr. Wash: Kimihia farewell (last waltz),' Miss Walters and JIT. Morris.
