DON COSSACK CHOIR
COMING AUCKLAND SEASON Box plans will open this morning for the forthcoming \season of General Platoft's famous Don Cossack choir and Russian dancers, which is limited to one week, and which will commenco on Saturday next at His Majesty's Theatre. Tho initial concert at Wellington was witnessed by a record audience, which cheered each number given by tho choir and dancers. Tho Don Cossack Choir, which includes over 30 members, is noted for its extensive repertoire of Russian classics, ranging from folk-songs to devotional arias, and each singer has reached the highest pinnacle of art in song and expression. The conductor, Nicolas Kostrukoff, provides inspirational guidance, and ho is said to obtain remarkable effects in tone-colour from the singers. Pathos and tragedy, together with some comedy, will bo intermingled in tho repertoire which is to bo presented by the Don Cossacks here, and they depict with wonderful skill the varying transitions with their contrasting tones and tho precision of their harmony. National dances give colourful interest to several of the items, and in individual and concerted action tho performers demonstrate tho co-ordination that has brought about their success in tho course of an outstanding world tour.
