TRAINING PILOTS
NEW DE HAVILLAND HORNET ACQUISITION BY HAWKE'S BAY [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] HASTINGS, Saturday A new two-seater aeroplane acquired by the Hawke's Bay and East Coast Aero Club arrived in Hastings yesterday, piloted by the club's instructor, Mr. E. Harvie. The machine is ade Havilland Hornet Moth, model 878, and is the only one of its typo in the country. The machine is equipped with wheel air brakes, and has a tail wheel. It has a range of 680 miles, a top speed of 124 miles an hour, a cruising speed of 108 miles an hour, and lands at 40 miles an hour. It is a cabin machine, with side by side seating, this enabling tho instructor to give flying tuition in a much more effective way than is possiblo with tandem cockpits. The machine will be used for training and for cross-country flights by the more advanced pilots of the-club.
