WAZIRISTAN TRIBES
BRITISH PEACE TERMS LIBERAL PLAN ADOPTED SIMLA. August 29 The terms of peace imposed on the IWaziristan tribes reveal that British authorities have not agreed to a policy, urged in some quarters in Simla and London, for partial dismemberment of the tribes. Instead they favour a plan for preventing disputes and feuds from arising by assisting each tribe to protect its people from its own bad characters and from attacks by other tribes. Nevertheless, openly hostile tribes will be punished by fines and compelled to surrender their rifles. Otherwise the case will be met by extension of "protected areas," in which a political agent, in collaboration with the tribal leaders, will decide disputes according to custom or religious law.
