GOLF IN ENGLAND
PROFESSIONAL CONTEST THREE WHITCOMBES LEAD LONDON. August 26 After the second round of the News Chronicle £IOOO golf tournament three members of tho Whitcombe family are in the leading positions. Ernest Whitcombe, with a record aggregate for a major tournament, 132 (65, 67), is first, and his son Eldie, 133 (65, 68), next. Reginald, 134 (69, 65), is level with ljranch, 134 (67, 67), in third place. He was second to H. Cotton in the recent British Open. Charles Whitcombe scraped into the 60 who qualified with two rounds of 72.
AUSTRALIAN LADIES OPEN TITLE CONTEST VICTORY TO MISS B. KERNOT MELBOURNE, August 27 In the final of the ladies' Australian open golf championship Miss B. Kernot (Victoria), beat Miss B. Cheney (also of Victoria), by 6 and 5. Both players aro members of the Tasman Cup team which is going to Napier to compete against the Now Zealand team in October.
