RACING AT THE CHATEAU 4

On the Chateau skiing grounds today the Ruapehu Ski Club held its men's and women's downhill races, and concurrent with the former the men's open downhill race was decided. ' The Tararua Tramping Club held its men's and women's slalom on the NewZealand championship slalom course?. The weather was unsettled and heavy snow showers made the conditions somewhat soggy, but ~>some excellent racing was seen. . The results of the Tararua Club V races were as follows:—Men's slalom: : A. R. Wilson, Hutt, Is§F. Akhurst, Hutt, 2. Women's slalom: Miss H. Gotli§b, Wellington, 1; Miss M. Broughton, Wellington, 2. The Ruapehu Ski Club held its races at high levels, the finishing post being just above the New Zealand championship slalom course. The course was fairly difficult and undulating, with steep schusses, where the men competitors particularly obtained remarkable speed, but many also lost their bal««& ancc, somersaulting to arrive, at the ' finishing post with a broken ski.
