Tho fields are good, with the exception of tho August Handicap, for 1 which there are only six acceptors, and tho various races appear very open, so that keencontests may be anticipated. The course may bo a trifle slow after the rain that fell during the week, but if the weather remains fine there should be little fault to find with tho going. The betting will be under the win and place system. Following are details of the fields with a review of the prospects in each raco by "Abaydos":— 12.0 —INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP, Of £200; .trotters; limit. 3.40; V/ a miles Elliotvale • • . Lt. yds. bhd. Lt. / .. Pink Lady's second to Listowel at her last start indicates a fiiio chanco and a little improvement by Querida should give her good prospects. Great Guy and Worthy Lu may bo improved, while Pirate's Last is capable of creating a surprise. Lady Bunker won at Hamilton in a manner that suggested ' further success. Colleen Murphy showed signs of returning to form in June, when Elissa also put up an attractive effort. Pura Bingen has won at her two last starts. The main fancies may be LADY BUNKER, . - QUERIDA, # COLLEEN MURPHY. 12.40—MOUNT EDEN HANDICAP, Of £200; -limit, 3.5; V/ 4 miles Bronze Queen . Lt. Kewpie's Bingen Lt. Captain Scott . Lt. Kia Kaba . . K.ia Kaha, Forest Jewel, Sequoia and Wall Street l'.avo shown promise, while Top Hand, Silver Bullet, Jewel Crest and John's Last have been shaping well on tho track. Gloster, Grattan Girl and Roman Chief are within striking range. Some who may find favpur aro GUIDE PETER, BRONZE QUEEN, HORI BINGEN. j a a I.2O—AUGUST HANDICAP, Of £3OO, limit, 4.36; 2 miles Kewpie's Kins Lt. yds. bhd. yds. bhd. Star Pronto . 36 Ironside 24 Nervie's Last . 48 Lady Fame - • 24' Our McKinney 48 Bracket:' Ironside and Nervie's Last. Although he has not won at the distance, Kewpie's Kmg ; should run a sound race, while Ironside may be all the better for his recent racing. Lady Fame has performed creditably at two miles and in the small riekl is a distinct possibility. Star Pronto should be dangerous and on his Addington displays Nervie's Last should take a lot of beating, esppcially if the track is firm. Our McKinney has improved in stamina and should have prospects. The chief fancies may be NERVIE'S LAST-IRONSIDE Bracket, OUR McKINXEY, LADY FAME.

2.O—GREY LYNN HANDICAP, Of £200; limit, 3.38; l l / 3 miles Ann Pointer • . Lt. , yds. bhd. Bedford - • • Lt. Sandusky • • • 12 Crocus . . . . Lt. Atarau King - 12 Kaitawa .... Lt. Baron Derby . 24 Queenie Direct Lt. Charteris Bay . 80 , Lucky Love • . 80 Brac'Mt: Crocus and Sandusky. Ann Pointer was prominent in her first race at the winter meeting, where Bedford failed after several previous placed efforts. Kaitawa is useful and .Queenie Direct may . surprise. Crocus won like a good one in April. He .will be bracketed with the good three-year-old Sandusky and it is a sound combination. Atarau King is improving and at his best Baron Derby has a chance.. Charteris Bay is very fit and Lucky Love is consistent. Investors may show a .preference for CROCUS-SAND USKY Bracket, • ' BEDFORD, ATARAU KING. 2.4O—ROYAL OAK HANDICAP, Of £225; trotters; limit, 4.51; 2 miles Bronte Lt. yda. bhd. ftoi Grande . . Lt. Tan John ... 48 yds. bhd. To Kahu ... 00 Carl Mack . . 24 Young Rodney . 72 f Swordsman ..." 24 Meadow Kine . 108 Bronte won well in May and is nicely placed. Roi Grande has been working better than formerly, but has been disappointing. Swordsman has been consistent, whijp Carl Mack's return to form iu Juno indicates 'a reasonable chanco for him. Tan John should ho hard to dispose of and on his latest displays Te Kahu seems likely to be prominent. Young Rodney is solid and • Meadow King is a capable trotter who should not be out of it from his line. Some who may be in demand are SWORDSMAN, TAN JOHN, v TE KAHU. 3.20 ONEHUNCA HANDICAP, Of £225; limit, 3.30; 11/,l 1 /, miles Blandford • , , Lt. yds. bhd. Compass • . Lt. Guid Hairst • . 36 pay Sister . . Lt. Impostor .... 30 Munga Tangi .Lt. Kewpie's Bond 30 Our Peggy . . Lt. Kewpie's Crest 30 Winavway • > . 48 Bracket: Gay Sister and Imr.oster. Blandford is reported to be regaining form. After his June success Compass should be a better prospect than Gay Sister, who may need a race. Our ;Poggy represents good class and Munga langi raced in improved stylo at the last meeting for a first and a second. La poster is a versatile performer and Kewpie's Bond is not without prospects. Guid Hairst. and Kewpie's Crest were ji- .Pl'eat form in June and are possibilities. Winijway should go a solid raco. Most support may be for MUNGA TANGI, OUR PEGGY, COMPASS. 4.O—ORAKEI HANDICAP, Of £200; limit, 3.34; IV, miles Argolis '' Lt. yds. bhdiMng Country Lt. Nawton Parrish 12 Lucky Lovo . Lt. Parrish Belie Ranfurly Lass Lt. (T.) 12 Royal Jewel ■ Lt. Spessiva .... 12 T , yds. bhd. Great Chum . . 24 Luminate • • . 12 Musketeer •• • 2-1 Bracket: Argolis and Great Chum.

A line on Lucky Love's prospects may bo given by his earlier showing and a repetition of her last effort would make Ranfurly Lass dangerous. Royal Jewel should-,- make things interesting, and, if attuned, King Country may be one of tho hardest to beat. Argolis showed improvement in his last two starts and will bo coupled with tho consistent Great Chum. Luminate and Parrish Belle aro in good order, while Nawton Parrish and Spessiva aro nicely placed. Musketeer is very speedy and has good prospects. Popular fancies may bo MUSKETEER, ARGOLIS - GREAT CHUM Bracket, KING COUNTRY. 4.4S—MASSEY MEMORIAL HANDICAP, Of £225; limit, 2.48; 1% miles Kenworthy . . , Lt. yds. bhd. Kewpie's King . Lt. Auto Machine . 24 „ yds. bhd. Lady Fame . . '-24 Gold Dredge . 12 King's Warrior 48 Our McKinney . 12 Norvie's Last . 48 Star Pronto .12 Bracket: King's Warrior , and Nervie's Last. On last season's showing Kenworthy should keep the best busy and the distance may suit Kowpie's King. Gold Dredge races well when fresh and Our McKinney has good form. Star Pronto reads better than Auto Machine, while Lady Fame, a brilliant sprinter, may make an oven stronger appeal. Nervie's Last and King's Warrior are in fine form and on Addington results the latter should be very difficult to dispose of. Some who may be well supported are KING'S WAKRIOR-NERVIE'S LAST Bracket, KENWORTHY. LADY FAME. FINAL TRAINING TAN JOHN GOES SOLIDLY MUNGA TANGI LOOKING WELL BY ABAYDOS Although the dirt track at Epsom was in excellent order yesterday, most trainers elected to use the sand. " Tan John (W. Heginbotham) worked well within himself for two miles, trotting solidly. Tan John's prospects in the Royal Oak Handicap, in spite of his good form on tho West Coast circuit, may depend on th : state of the track, as lie failed badly on holding ground at Ep§om in April. He is a good trotter under favourable conditions. Luminate (J. E. Seagar) was responsible for a sound mile and a-half.. He appears to have done well on an easy preparation. ; Parrish BeJlo (C. G. Leo) trotted about a mile and'three-quarters at a useful speed. She looks very bright, but appears to have a difficult task against several smart pacers in the Orakei Handicap. Lee also gave Great Guy strong work. Great Guy, who has had only one start, has furnished into a gopd-looking horse. Gold Kip (W. C. Willetts) and Pirate's Laf-t (L. J. Mahoney) went , evenly over two miles. Pirate's Last is not deficient in speed, but lacks solidness. Hillcrest (D. 0. Jones) was let off ■with a couple of short sprints. The three-year-old has made a good deal of progress in the last rew weeks, but may be all tho better for. a. race or two. Sequoia (\y. H, Sammons). was not doing his best during a mile and a-half. He has put on some condition since racing in June and is not -without pros- - pects in the. Mount Eden Handicap.' 1 Atarau: King's Condition ?

Atarau King • (C. M. Morrison) gave a good. unhoppled display, over a mile and a-half, sprinting along tho back. No horse at Epsoni is in better condition. Star Pronto (B. Dyer) and Forest Jewel (L. Mitchell) were associated in a useful mile and a-half, the former going an extra half-mije at a solid pace. The fine speed shown by Star Pronto in some of his latest sprints indicates that he is likely to be prominent in

his races to-day. Munga Tangi (L. Laver) was restricted to jogging. He has never looked better and his prospects appear bright. Roi Grande (A. Paton); assisted by Dainty Lady, trotted steadily over a couple of circuits. He appears to have done well on plenty of long, strong work. Young Rodney (L. Laver). went usefully over two iiiiles. He has reached a hard "mark, but is a genuine stayer. Lucky Love (D. Cook) showed keenness while sprinting a few furlongs unhoppled and then ran an easy mile and a-half. Lucky Love should perform solidly to-day. . i , Pink Lady (G. Paton) hit out with more freedom than on Thursday and was running on soundly at the end oi a mile and a-quarter. She has not had a great deal of,fast work, but, is bright and muscular. ■ ' ' i

L. N. Vernall's Horses

Bedford (D. Smith) was allotted use.

ful unhoppled work over a mile and a-half. He has done well lately and maV not be without prospects to-day. Charteris Bay (A. Cole) finished strongly at the end of two miles. He is in great heart. Jewel Crest (L. Laver) was given strong unhoppled work and acquitted himself creditably. Ho has furnished into a good type, but lack of experience may prejudice his chance in the Mount Eden Handicap. Silver Bullet (W. Hughes), who showed signs of soreness on Thursday, was restricted to easy work. * The Hamilton trainer L. N. Vernall arrived yesterday with Our McKinney and Blandford and both hox-ses appear well forward. Our McKinncy should raco prominently if he repeats his June form. . blandford has not displayed much form since coming north, but is capable of a useful effort when fit. THE GIMCRAck STAKES
