DEBATING CONTEST
ATHENEUM CUP FINAL Jn defeating tho Junior Chamber of Commerce on the motion "iliat Shakespeare is Out-of-date," the "University College Debating Club won tho Athoheuni Cup in this year's debating contest organised by the Auckland Literarv and Debating Societies' Union. The University for the affirmative was represented by Mr. IC. Braybrooke, Mr.JC. Ha I stead and Miss M. Best, while the speakers for the negative were Messrs. Harrop, Salmoitd and Christmas. Mr. Louis Phillip in giving Ins decision, said that the debate had been remarkably interesting, and the speeches of a high quality, 11)0 University team had shown a considerable literary knowledge, and Mr. Braybrocko and Miss Best had reached a standard that was equal to any ho had ever known in previous years. :
