ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES
TE AROHA OPPOSES CHANGE £bt telegraph—OWN correspondent! TE AROHA, Friday Arising out of a discussion at a meeting of the To Aroha Chamber of Commerce, a public meeting was held in Te Aroha for the purpose of providing town and country residents with an opportunity to discuss the effect on Te Aroha and surrounding districts of proposed changes in the electoral boundaries. It is proposed that Te Aroha should form part of the Thames electorate instead of Tauranga, as formerly. " Everyone will agree that we have nothing in common with the Tauranga electorate," said the chairman, Mr. H. L. Thornton, in opening the discussion. « . . " Apparently the commission doe 3 not consider community of interest the most important point," Baid Mr. R. Coulter, M.P. for Waikato, and Mayor of Te Aroha. " I feel that our position could be further improved by placing Te Aroha in the Hauraki or Waikato electorate. We have an equal community of interest with the northwest and south-west districts, and Te Aroha should bo associated with the country to the west of the range rather than to the north." After further discussion it was resolved that a protest be lodged, with the Electoral Boundaries Commission, asking that To Aroha should be included with either Hauraki or Waikato in ; preference to Thames, or in a new electorate to be known as Thames Vali©y * ) -f . {J. t ■ '
