AN UNLUCKY GOLFER
PLAYED THE WRONG BALL An unfortunate mistake on Tuesday cost a Rotorua player, W. Hill, the distinction of heading tho list of qualifiers in tho Rotorua Golf Club's open championship and also deprived him of his chance of winning tho prize for tho best gross score in tho qualifying round. Hill, with a card which would have placed him at tho head of tho list, played tho last hole in four, only to find that in playing out of a bunker ho had played a ball which apparently belonged to one of n trio of lady players practising on tho last fairway. He had to concodo tho penalty of two for playing tho wrong ball and i-eplay, bringing his strokes at the last hole to eight instead of four. As a result Hill came clown from first position to sixth in tho list of qualifiers.
