WATERFOWL AT ZOO
RECONSTRUCTION OF POND The reconstruction of the waterfowl pond at the Auckland Zoological Gardens, which has been in progress since tho beginning of July, has now been completed and a number of birds have been liberated there. The object of tho work was to improve tho appearance of tho pond and to provide a better breeding place. So that birds may bo kept in tho pond without tho necessity of clipping their wings, tho area has boon covored with fino mesh. Tho surrounding fence has been sunk in deep concrete foundations to protect eggs and ducklings from rats. Among tho waterfowl already placed in tho pond are brown and falcated teal, mandarin ducks and sheldrakes.
