HOSPITAL DISTRICTS
AMALGAMATION OPPOSED [by telegraph OWN correspondent] THAMES. Thursday ' The Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser. early in the month wrote to the Coromandel Hospital Board concerning its attitude toward the proposed amalgamation with the Thames and Waihi districts. The secretary of the board has now replied ,to the Minister. ? "It is desired to point out," says the secretary, "that Coromandel's "outlet by rbad is over two ranges of hills, plus miles of coast road, which is not-'a' road that can be classed with roads in other parts of the united district, and, furthermore, patients that have required specialist treatment have in the majority of cases been sent by boat to Auckland. The boat, trip is. considered to be more comfortable and easier on the patients than a motor trip over hilly and, in places, rough roads." The secretary also goes into the financial aspect with a view to showing that the Coromandel county would not benefit by the proposed amalgamation.
